About us

Gabriela Martinez

Our founder, Gabriela, was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador. She earned a Law Degree and became a qualified attorney, driven by a profound sense of social justice.

While working with the Labor Department in Ecuador, she got to experience first hand how low-income neighborhoods are left without access to healthcare services and a safety-net facilities.

This motivated her to earn a Masters Degree in Safety, Health and Environment and for 7+ years she worked designing strategies to improve the working conditions at her industrial safety family business.

She seated as an industry technical expert in various drafting committees and intensively worked to standardized safety and health products.

In 2016, she decided to venture abroad and start a new life along with her husband in New York City. The life as an immigrant brought pleasant surprises.

She worked in the nonprofit industry managing institutional program workshops and fundraising strategies to support the economic & professional integration of immigrants and refugees. She started to engage in initiatives supporting the immigrant philanthropic agenda and purpose driven investments.

This journey brought Wanuna to life, a dream she had for a long time. Gabriela conceived a hybrid model where fair trade compliance, project management and social impact merge. Wanuna represents the soul of diversity and a philosophy for life: smart decision-making and an inclusive state of mind.
